Protection When You Need It

Overdraft Services

Our lives are busy, and we know that sometimes you might inadvertently overdraw your checking account. American National offer several options for Overdraft Services. These alternatives are ways to help you protect your account, but they can not replace good money management. Since it is important that you make an informed decision about which alternative is right for you, please review the information below, as well as the tips to help you avoid overdraft fees at the bottom of the page.

You will also find additional money management tips and strategies on the financial education page of the website.

Benefits of Overdraft Protection

Convenience - Your purchases may be approved even if you do not have the funds to cover the transaction in your checking account.

Flexibility - Even if you are short of funds, you may be allowed to continue your purchase without embarrassment and inconvenience of a returned item.

Peace of Mind - If you do not have other forms of payment available, your purchases may still be approved.

Here are some alternatives for you to review regarding overdraft protection:

1. Back Up Account

Link an eligible American National Bank account to your checking account as a Back Up Account. We will then automatically transfer available funds to cover your transaction. A small transfer fee will be assessed as described in the Miscellaneous Fee Schedule.

- There is no fee to add this service, and there is no fee if you never use it.

- You can request that we link your accounts (including savings, other checking or eligible lines of credit) as a Back Up Account to your checking account.

- If you have sufficient funds in your account(s) linked for Overdraft Protection, your transactions will be approved. If not, your transactions will be declined if you have not opted into the Overdraft Privilege program.

- Available funds in your linked account(s) will be used to pay any transaction on your checking account and help you avoid overdrafts or returned items.

- A single transfer fee will be assessed, regardless of the number of transactions we pay from your account each day.

2. Overdraft Privilege

This service may be an appropriate safety net, helping you avoid declines and additional fees from merchants for an accidental overdraft. Overdraft Privilege is available based on approval by the Bank. If you Opt-In to Overdraft Privilege, you may receive the following benefits:

- There is no fee to add this service, and there is no fee if you never use it.

- Any checks, ACH, online bill payments, ATM and Debit Card transactions may be paid, even if you do not have sufficient funds in your account.

- We may pay the items for your convenience, but we will assess the standard overdraft fees as stated in the Miscellaneous Fee Schedule.

- This is a discretionary service that may help you avoid declines, especially if you do not have other forms of payment available. Payment of overdrafts is discretionary by the Bank.

Please note, you may opt out at any time.
